The Grey Hair Trend..... Not for the faint of heart

Ok so as we know "Grey Hair" is the thing for the season.  However it is not as easy to achieve as you think!

I myself have had to experiment on my own hair a total of 2 times on a friend/client (unsucessful) and 4 times on myself before I got it right!

I am a master at changing my fashion colors like most change their underwear... In 4 months I have been completely pink, then purple to pink color melt, then mostly purple with pink highlights, and the hair color right before my grey series was peacock, it was loved by many... and no my hair doesnt look damaged, dry, nor does the color fade.... I can do this because i have wonderful professional color as well as professional color removers for all types of dyes!

SOOOO Back to the grey hair.  This look was not  easy right off the bat, I had to experiment with many different brands, colors etc...and I finally found the most amazing grey.  Its also not as hard as I thought once i had the products right....  If you have very dark hair its going to need to be lifted to about a level  9...10    in between those two... anything higher is not going to hold the color.  any darker the grey wont look pure!  If your looking for this color make sure you ask the stylist how many times they have performed it, how many times they fell on their face with it, and how confident they are with performing this color on you.... if they are sitting there and talking in circles or telling you it will be a multiple appointment job.... unless you have `black or red previously on your hair ,it should not be a multiple appointment job,,,, RUN!

Feel free to drop  me a line, and ask any questions you need,,,, The color i used after mt hair was already prelightened was Beth Minardi 7ice (permanent) and for the bottom it was artic blue black or something like that which is a demiI did this a month ago and the color is still good

Introducing Custom Human Hair Extensions

We are proud to announce we will now be offering Custom Human Hair clip in extensions.  WHY?  Because we have been asked recently by so many people if we could dye and style so many of our clients exsisting hair extensions and for the most part we find they are in bad condition, missing pieces, have been over processed, or simply....don't fit!
I have been educated on many different methods of extensions through the years and have executed them beautifly however through the years I have seen clients hair and scalps suffer from many of these methods so I have decided to only customize clip ins. I am not an advocate for any other methods of extensions, nor will I do them anylonger for any price!

WHY?

For those who Have alot of questions about the different methods of extensions and why I refuse to do them I will go into a little more depth for you.

One of my favorite methods was Fusion / aka single strand glue ins.  cost about $1500 to $3000 to put in

This is one of the more popular methods and for a while two of the top brands were great lengths, and socap.  All the celebrities were getting these. and granted when you put them in the hair was top quality, and the results, if they are done well like the picture above, look amazing....for a month... but there is a dark side!
Improper instalation
yes people, this happens more often than not, too much hair is bunched in , not angled down , and not sectioned properly

Besides the horrible instalation, let me put it to you like this....say whether they are installed correctly or not, , is your hair reeeaaallyyy in a natural state when they are glued in? when you sleep does your hair ever stay straight down and not move?  when you dance does it stay straight down and not move? does every strand of your hair grow at the same exact speed? the answer to all of these questions is NO! so as you move when the maybe 10 to 20 strands of your real hair is now holding up to 40 in addition to your 10 to 20 the stress of it moving against the gravity of the position it is glued into is stressing the root of your hair and pulling them out untilll........
AAAAHHHHHHHHH!

CAUSING........WAIT FOR IT.......

you got it balding.

so heres your dilema, you got extensions because you had fine and or thin hair
now you have tons of bald spots and its worse!

Then on top of the $1500 to $3000 (by someone who actually knew what they were doing) you paid them to be put in, now when they start getting too long and tangling, that is..... the ones that have not twisted out, gotten caught in combs, etc
you now have to pay $100 to $300 to have them taken out!

WHO CAN FORGET THE BRITNEY SPEARS BREAKDOWN AND THE SHAVING OF HER OWN HEAD?

ahhhh yes, well before that her hair was looking like this, from guess what?.....
you got it, ...fusion extensions!  No wonder she shaved it!

BEAD LOC EXTENSIONS
the even more noticable evil twin
stylists will say these are less damaging but most of what happens with the fusion ones happen here too and they look worse when you move your hair around plus when you put them in, they are metal and can cut into your hair causing instant damage, and what ever you didnt damage having them put in, the removal process requires the stylist to take the pliers and open each bead by squeezing in the oposite direction which sometimes doesnt open them but fold them in half making it impossible to remove!

SEW IN EXTENSIONS / AKA WEAVE
Now I have been a victim of this and it only took one time, I had a friend of mine braid my hair about 14 years ago to sew a weave in my hair, white girl hair isnt as coarse as ethnic hair but with braiding that is too tight both ethnicities suffer.  easier for white girls though,  You get balding and damage to your hair line.....PERMANENT damage to your hair line
yes that naomi campbell

There are other less invasive such as glueing tracks in, which is good for ethnic hair, but for white girls who wash their hair all the time or are active, it wouldn't work so this is why I have made a stand against all extensions except for clip ins!

HOW MINE ARE CUSTOMIZED

1. we have a phone consultation to find out how long in length you are looking to have your extensions, what texture you are looking for, what you are looking to achieve, discuss colors and a preliminary estimate of price, and deposit

2.  now it is time to come in for me to measure your head, inspect your hair, make any suggestions, and secure a deposit.  There is a $40 in studio consultation fee which in the event you chose not to put a deposit down on extensions you can use towards a service that same day only or you forfeit the consultation fee . However if you are making a deposit the consultation fee is waived.

3. The hair is ordered

4. The clips are sewn in by hand according to specifications

5. The hair is colored. There are two ways the hair is colored, one way is that it is done before pickup and two is a full service with the extensions installed. we will discuss which method is best at time of consultation.

6.If the hair is colored before pickup, all you need to do is come pay the balance, they will be installed and cut to your liking.
If they are colored in a full service manner, your full service will be carried out, and you will leave with them once your balance is paid.

THINGS TO KNOW

Extensions range in price from $150 to $400 and up, which includes coloring and a cut at the time of pickup

at the time of consultation you may choose to order a hair extension case through us which is an additional fee ranging from $20 to $50 depending on length or you may chose to shop online for your own. Either is ok by us but to properly care for your new human hair extensions we do suggest you get one reguardless

If you ever choose to change your hair color and need them to match your new look, we can do that for you no problem, we use high quality human hair. However if you dye them yourself with a box color which is dark and we now need to lighten them, just like normal hair, it is color correction and can be costly, especially for extensions.

Thumbtack.com .... Is it worth it for the Professional? Thumbtack.com review

I joined Thumbtack.com about 2 weeks ago.  I saw a video on you tube where a guy said it was Legit.  HOWEVER as a Professional, I am not that crazy about it!  So far I have had an abundance of leads, about 10 so far,  yet either none pan out and everytime I answer a lead it costs $3.33.  This Morning I recieved my first reply from a lead saying that my salon, The one which is listed on my profile, is too far for her to travel on a time crunch even though the distance she listed  was within her "range".

Personally I was trying this to maybe see if this would be good to get my name out in this area a little more but I am thinking this is a method to kind of pass on!

It seems those who are looking for a quote are actually looking for a basement bargain price not a quality service.

At this point in my career I am not in the position to play the lets mark my services down so much that it makes it impossible to handle my overhead.

I also feel for serious providers that they are placing the companies ability in making their dribs and drabs of cash in the hands of  potential clients who themselves don't know what they want, and the only one truely making out in this deal is Thumbtack.

Lets do the math
5 different free visitors that meet geographically a distance criteria, are looking for a quote each day
that's 25 quotes in total
5 providers answered each quote at $3.33 each
in one day, from 5 quote requests thumbtack made
$83.25
and its not even guaranteed that any of these people seeking a quote even hire anyone.

NOT TO MENTION THE ODDS ARE THAT YOU WILL SPEND MORE LONGTERM ANSWERING LEADS THAN BOOKING GIGS!

I am pretty sure I may just learned a lesson for $34 bucks and I am glad I got off that cheap!

The Ombre Blues #ICant

Ok I want to see a show of hands on this one!  How many of you have told your stylist you wanted
this

and you got
THIS?

Well today I am going to give you some insite to this particular Ombre, and when to know to run far away from your beloved stylist by letting you know what techniques do not get the first pictures results!

The first picture features face framing, and soft color graduation. There are no hard lines, and no dense brassiness
This is achieved by a Balayage technique method, It should only take about 4 to 6 foils just to protect the hair from coming in to contact with the face and cape.

WHEN TO  RUN

  • If your stylist puts a good heaping pile of foils on his/her station and when you ask them "are you using more than 6 of them?" they reply yes
  • If your stylist starts teasing your hair
  • If your stylist starts to grab a piece of your hair and glob the bleach on holding the brush in a horizontal manner
  • If your stylist does not know that what Balayage means (french word for hand painting) and  or is doing the opposite
  • If your hair is not sectioned

If any or all of the above had happened to you, then you my friend have The Ombre Blues!
Turn that into the Ombre DO'S

Good Communication is key. Do not let your stylist yes you to death. Show Pictures of what your looking for and do alot of research on your stylist.  Ask them for before and after pictures of  their previous work especially ombre before and afters. and most of all
IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY CONFIDENT
DO RUN!

SHISEIDO.....At the Dollar store? CHEAP SHISEIDO .... huh?

Are my Eyes seeing this correctly?
a few weeks ago I got tired of my daughter getting pimples from dry skin.  I have been telling her that she needs to scrub her face and then put lotion on. Put it on in the morning, put it on at night.  She kept saying she was yet I didn't see a difference. So i ask her what she has been putting on her face as lotion, and she says her bath and body works and Victoria Secret BODY lotion.  What... WHAT? and you thought this would be good for your face?  On a whim later that evening, My husband and I were in the dollar store and I simply saw a tube of facial lotion and without a blink of an eye I grabbed it for her!
To my surprise, her face cleared right up in a week.I was shocked and I had to do some makeup applications so I ran to her room and grabbed the tube to read the ingredients and right there in black  : FT Shiseido Company LTD.  the same fancy Shiseido that charges you for your first born child for their beauty products!

I had nooooo clue in a million years that Shiseido owned Sea Breeze at all.....

YES THE SAME STUFF WE PUT ON OUR FACES IN THE 70's & 80'S

Well I guess sometimes you don't have to spend a ridiculous amounts of money to have good products or good skin.  This will definitely open my eyes to read labels from now on!  I will also be doing research i the coming months to see what other products are great on a low budget but brought to you by big name companies.
P.S. Did You Know ....
Benefit is a LOUIS VUITTON company?

Totally #REDKENobssessed This weekends Happenings

This weekend had to be to most Exhausting yet Rewarding and Educational weekend I have had in such a loooooooong time!  My daughter got asked to Model for a Redken event that needed her from Saturday night till Monday Afternoon.   Saturday and Sunday was in Moorseville NC (1 HR 15 mins Distance) and Monday was in Raleigh NC (2HR 30 mins Distance) Saturday was prepping from 4:30 PM till 12:30 AM then Sunday Morning was a runway show and education, Sunday afternoon was just a show for the Redken Newbies, and Monday was an awesome Runway/Education Show.  And what a show it was!

AND COMPLETELY FREAKING WORTH IT!

Redken took their new hair trend called Splashlights on the road and while at first look at the runway concepts anyone would tell themselves that the everyday person would not want that done to them, the possibilities are actually endless.  This new technique really got my wheel turning and I have so many ideas which would work for everyday people.  We were taught that placing even neutral tones only one to two shade lighter can enhance or downplay facial structure and even give the illusion of shiny hair on even the most damaged..
